A Small Baby Gift

My husbands cousin is pregnant and we found out recently and like any great quilter I knew I needed to make something cute. And I needed a few supplies for my Amy Butler's Weekender bag (which is my feburary goal). I found this adorable fabric from Adornit the Nesting Owls. I was instantly in love and bought it before I'd even found a pattern. Then I hit Moda Bake shop and found an an equally adorable pattern with pinwheels! Seriously how have I Never made a pin wheel! I was in sewing heaven making those! So fun and so cute! I've also done some fussy cutting on the back (another first!) 

Now to finish a bit more quilting and then binding and it would be one of my cutest creations!

Back To The Blog

Now that summer is coming to an end I have a feeling I'll be back at the blogging! I've had a couple really great busy successful days! 

Yesterday I started my Disappearing Nine Patch quilt. I got all my nine patches sewn together and then I got them cut into quarters. I forgot to take photos because my phone was dead and my iPad was playing music. 

I also did 108 flights of stairs. Which means that I can walk up to the chapel in the stratosphere where I am getting married in about 5 weeks! (Holy crap time goes by sooo fast) I also ordered my necklace and earrings for my wedding day! WIN! 

Today was another super busy day. I went out to coffee this morning with *LB* and then home to clean the carpet in my bedroom and the hallway and the top two stairs and the landing! I then sewed the quilt top. I'm a super fan of the quick and fun disappearing nine patch!

 Then I ran for 36 minutes on my treadmill. I've started to try to do at least 30 minutes of activity a day. Day 2 a success! 

Now off to plan something for dinner! I promise I'll get some better pictures of my quilt top up soon!!

New Book!

I think I am going to try to make a blog a month about one of the quilting books that I have gotten.
I love buying new quilting books. I find it helps me get new ideas for future Projects and it also helps me learn new things. As someone who hasn't taken a quilting class and is very green in the world of crafting.
I by no means know anything about writing a book or critiquing books. I just know what I like about books. So I'll tell you all those things. And who knows maybe you'll like the same things. Or see a book that you haven't seen before because I've learned that not all book stores are created equal... So that being said Here goes nothing!
This week I had an orthodontist appointment! (Less than a year left with these braces) I went to the book store there and found "Modern Patch Work" by Elizabeth Harrman! I love the Hexagon blanket on the cover to begin with. And it after a look through I loved the way she showed an idea for the back of the quilt and the different color options!
After reading through I love the instructions and her general color choices. I also really like the pictures in the book. They're interesting. They show off the quilts really well and let you see the amazing quilting.

Stomach Flu & Sewing!

After two days of being super sick and then one of being half sick and trying to convince myself to get over it I have a major update for my blog...

ALL 12 OF MY BLOCKS FOR SHERRY SOMETIMES ARE COMPLETE!!!

Yay me!! Now it's time for PVR'ed Suits (see how sick I was! I didn't even watch it when it was on regular TV!) and sashing time! I've never sashed before!

Let The Progress Continue!

After some serious Candy crush & Youtube time its time for me to get back to work! After all the progress I had yesterday I'm gonna try to keep the good times rolling! I am going to try to get a few of my units put together into blocks. Although I think I might make my units bigger by attaching them  together and then continue doing that until I have a full and complete block. Wish me Luck!

Whoa! A Great Lot Of Progress!

I had to show you all that I actually got done today! I'm actually amazed by myself! My sister was amazing and ironed all my units!

Cutting Machine!

Yesterday I spent the first part of my morning finishing sewing the strips together for Sherry Sometimes Blanket. Then I went to work cutting those strips into the correct measurements. Now I have tiny mountains of pieces all over my sewing desk and I have a few more strips to cut. It shouldn't be that long until I am all set to start sewing units! I just love that I get to say Units all the time.
I hope to get to the point where I am sewing blocks today but I'm not 100% sure that I will get that far. It might take me a while to sew all the pieces together. *Fingers Crossed*

I would also like to do some work on my Juggernaut Quilt! (Its for my cat, Jasper, who also answers to Juggers, Juggernaut, Jassy-Jas, House Leopard and a few other names). Its going to go into the "Man room" which is LB's answer to my craft room. Really not a lot happens in there. I don't think LB goes in there very often. But Jasper LOVES to sleep up there on the futon. The 3rd floor gets super warm here so he goes up there at night or during the day for his siestas! 
I found the pattern on Pinterest and its one from Moda Bake Shop. And my awesome sister The Purple Quiltapotamus sent me some scraps and a charm pack! Which made me even more excited to get started on that one. I'm also trying to be super patient and wait for my new rulers from Busy Bee Inc's Etsy Shop. It may kill me to wait! I'm hoping that they get here soon. I ordered the circle ones. I might have to go back and order a couple of the other shapes later!

Quilting Sunday!

After finishing and delivering my Shattered Hooters quilt I seem to be really inspired! I have gotten to work on my Sherry Sometimes Quilt. It's from Material Obsessions 2 by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke. I love the pattern and I'm looking forward to trying the appliqué. This quilt will most likely find a home on my couch. Although if its anything like the Shattered Hooter I have a feeling my cat will be taking it as his own and be sleeping in it and on it as much as possible.
In other news! Suits is back on!!! Yay!!! I LOVE this show! Harvey Spector is my hero! I think everyone should watch this show!
I also had a nice night out with friends last night and by chance we ended up at Boston Pizza on UFC Night and I won a door prize. It's a UFC DVD. I think LB is pretty excited.
A bit of terrible news is yesterday LB got in a small car accident the other guy turned out of a parking lot right in front of LB. Our car has a hole in it. But everyone is okay. Now if only LB had stuck with me and gone to the tattoo parlor to find out about my new plans and tattoo! I can't wait till Thursday! That's when I have my actual appointment! Mark me 100% excited!

Brag Pictures!!!

 Outside was freezing! Like minus a billion and two freezing! I took a few photos and then I could no longer feel my finger to push the camera buttons. So I took some inside photos too!

 Holy we have snow here too! That is a snow drift in my backyard! Its giant! I cannot wait till spring. You can't see any traces of it from here but to the left of this snow drift is my garden.

 I love my rads when the heating is working like it should be! This one we touched up last year when I painted the living room. And then I got my electrical updated! Worst nightmare ever! Now I have giant holes in my walls that are going to be a pain in the ass to repair. Then I'll have to paint again!

Stairs! These are my cats favorite place to play! I encouraged him to go take a nap in my room while I took photos. Its not so hard when its so cold out. He likes to sleep on the third floor in the "man room"

Binding Time!

My last couple days off went super well! I got a LOT done! A crazy amount actually! It is now time for me to do some binding! I tried it over the weekend and there was a TERRIBLE!!! seam ripping accident! It was awful! So I seam ripped it all and I will try again today. I have loads of pictures to show you all of them were taken with my iPhone so I apologize for the quality but at the same time I don't because I have a giant love for my camera and once I take it out I want to play with it and take loads of photos and go for photo walks and just take loads of pictures. So while in the middle of a project it's best if I just iPhone and continue with the project. I promise once I finish my Shattered Hooter blanket I will pull out the big camera and take amazingly beautiful pictures and close ups and super pictures and when I finally get to give it to Three (my friends baby!) I'll try to get a few shots with her and the blanket! Lets GO BINDING!

This is me pointing out that I am an idiot and I make mistakes (I made this one about 8 times throughout the quilting process! Including when I was trying to fix it this time and was aware that I had to make sure my backing fabric wasn't being sneaky and folding back on its self.

This was a teaser picture for my step sister who has spent a lot of time and text messages encouraging me and helping me get to this point in the blanket.

Back to work doing more quilting I was 100% determined to  get this quilting stuff done that morning. I was actually dreaming the night before about my quilting plans!

This is a close up of one of the diamonds that I made! I'm 100% glad that I decided to sew on both of the sides of the piece of tape so that I could get those cute mini diamonds at the top, bottom, and both sides of the big diamond

The finished quilted quilt! Just waiting for some trimming and binding! And some better pictures! These pictures are terrible! Especially with the amount of work that went into this! I need to do better and stop taking the easy way out! Even though I think the excuse is legit!

Cold weather adventures!

This has been my weekend off! It's been a bit productive! Saturday I spent the day with my sister and then went out for drinks and dinner with some people from work! I LOVE my work people! They're awesome!
Then yesterday I got another side of shattering and piecing together for my Shattered Hooter. Now I have one side to go. One more side to go then its sandwich time! I'm really looking forward to quilting. Although I don't think that I am doing anything to fancy. Seeing as this is my first one. My sister helped me ALOT when I was in Calgary at the beginning of the month. She was able to answer my questions (I have a lot) and she let me practice some FMQ. It was awesome!
Back to yesterday! We ran out of bunny food and the pet store that sells the right type of bunny food is closed on Sundays. So I was going to go to Safeway which is only three or four blocks away. It was minus 34 (Celsius) so I bundled up. Grabbed my reusable bag and started on my way. I locked the door knob part of my door and walked out. I ensured that it was locked all and secure and then I realized that I had left my keys in the house! Yup WINNER! Terrible! So I locked myself out! Luckily LB was on lunch break at work and was able to come let me in. And I got food for dinner. And remembered the bunny food! They loved me for it!

Shattered Hooter Update!

Just updating everyone on my progress with my Shattered Hooter Blanket! I've been working on the Shattered Glass Border the last few days and I think it's coming along nicely!

I also wanted to show everyone my "Downstairs" fabric stash!

The Start Of Something New!

I am officially a serial crafter! I blow in craft it up and then start a new craft! It's a great cycle. It keeps me having fun and keeps me from being bored.
And generally I turn back and go finish a few projects. But today is the start of something new. It's my couch blanket. I've never really finished anything for myself but this past year I have started two things and I will have one before I turn 30.
After a few days of reading the instructions I finally clued in ! Now they seem awfully simple. But I the last two days I have cut and pieced unit 1A ad 1B! It's going to be a mystery to you guys! I'll try to post lots of pictures and info as I go! Then at the end I'll do a big reveal! The fun begins!

Blogtoberfest Day 2

Day 2- I was worried I'd forget today. Mostly because I have to work (craft supplies must be bought! And to do that I have to make money. Seems like a bad system if you ask me).
After work tonight I am hoping that I get the rest of my cutting done and hopefully depending on time I may lay it out and start placement of my pieces and try to get the right color combos that I like.
I'd also like to go out for a nice fall run. It should be a nice night for that and I love running through the rustling leafs!
I also need a goods plan for dinner and I am not sure what I want.

Blogtoberfest! Starts

Being relatively new to Blogging I had no idea that there was so many things that happened between blogs. My step sister, The Purple Quiltapotamus, said that she was going to do Blogtoberfest. And I just happen to have a new project to start that could use a little motivation so I thought that I would join. See if I'm up for I Saw You Dancing's challenge! Challenge Accepted! 

New Project!

My friend is having a baby in December. It will be her third baby and Three is going to be the first girl. Poor thing with two older brothers. I wish her the best already. And I decided that I wanted to learn to quilt. (Please feel free to give advice! I look forward to it!) So I went to the book store Chapters yesterday. After getting a Latte and a snack I made my way to the crafting section and lucked out because the quilting was at floor level! I planted myself on  the floor and started pulling books! After about an hour I finally decided on one book! By Boo Davis!

Then I came home and flipped through checking out all the pictures and fought long and hard between the skull and the owl. This time the owl won out. After making notes to make the size adjustments (in my newly appointed stitching notebook, not in my book, don't be silly) I consulted a few people and the choice was clear. I'll keep the brown and change the green and blue to pink and purple! So a quick trip to the fabric store and raiding my previous fabric stash I'm ready to begin!

Sewing Space

Today I shall have the house to myself!!! (Excluding the cat and the bunnies! But they're my favorite part of my family! lol) The plan is to set myself up a little sewing space in the living room! LB's grandma had an auction sale last year just before she moved into an apartment and I bought a wicked awesome super lamp and its in my sewing space! Then I have a sewing table and a chair already in the space and I've been stacking my EPP fabric on it since I started that adventure. So I think its gonna be perfect. I've even told LB thats where I plan to put my sewing machine and he didn't insist that I take it to my craftroom. Although I did tell him that this way I can sew and watch Baseball! Which I'm actually starting to enjoy (but don't tell him that!)
Alright I'm off  to get started! Hopefully I'll have some pictures up soon! And if anyone out there has any great suggestions for blogs I should follow for beginning quilters please send me your suggestions!

 This is our record playing. Its also from the auction sale! We LOVE IT! We do however need more records because we don't have that many. Today I picked Buddy Holly! Yesterday we were listening to Michael Jackson's Thriller! Most excellent!

 This is my little place now! I can't wait to get a cork board for the wall! Hopefully LB can make it stay up! We have a super old house and getting things to stay on the walls is a bit harder than it sounds!

 I turned off my ultra cool light so you guys could see it a bit better! I love it! I think it'll also be perfect when I'm sewing. I can turn on one, two or three of the light bulbs depending on how dark it is. (See my handy tool sitting there! Please don't look Dad! I promise its not a good butter knife. Its a random one that doesn't belong to my set)

SEWING MACHINE! Its got sooo many options I'm a little intimidated by it. It did come with a DVD so I'll watch that and get some courage!
